Corporate Responsibility and Human Rights

Corporate Responsibility and human rights

Joseph Byomyhangyi works at the UCCA consortium promoting corporate responsibility. Uganda is one of the first African countries to have a national plan to promote corporate responsibility and human rights.

The Democratic Governance Facility (DGF) has been a fund implemented by amongst others the EU, through which funds have been channeled to promote good governance and human rights. In addition to the organisational field, DGF also financed some bodies of the Ugandan government, such as the National Human Rights Commission. Now the Ugandan government has closed the channel, and further plans are not yet clear.

Many Ugandan organisations are worried because they do not know what kind of funding channels the EU countries will open after the closure of the DGF. Funding might be channeled through EU embassies. However, not all embassies have the know-how or channels to finance organisations anymore, because they have already been channeling funding through DGF for some years.
